Caulking Your Roof Eaves

Even when your roofing materials are strong and free of defects, other areas of your roof system may need repairs. Exterior roof eaves—which help deflect water from your foundation and add shade—can develop cracks in the wood or roofing material. Watch the short Expert Village video to learn how to seal up these cracks in your roof design near Fort Lauderdale.

With a full and functional caulking gun, place the tip at one end of a crack and drag a thin strip of caulk to the other end. Use your finger or a flexible shaper to press the caulk into the crack and smooth it along the roof eaves. Be sure each crack is sealed nicely and smooth to ensure there are no leaks or added moisture that could cause future problems to your roofing.
